Adding weight to the sword?

Just got done watching Deadliest Warrior, Vlad the Impaler vs Sun Zhu(bad spelling) and the short range weapons were the Kilij and the Jian respectively. When they did the tests for them one of the doctors said that if the Jian had been weighted like the Kilij had that the slashing potential would have been nearly equal. My question is, if a strait sword is wighted at the end, would the slashing potential, not just the force, be affected or was the Kiij better because it had its curve?
